Carnegie Heritage Centre

We have a large collection of information catalogued in our comprehensive box file storage area.

Local Maps and local history books are also available to see plus many copies of the Hull Daily Mail Flashback which are in the process of being catalogued.

We have now got most of our resources in a searchable database so it is easier to find information required, be it photos, books, maps or subjects in our unique Box Files. Just ask a volunteer to help.

Resources available at the Centre

We have a wide range of useful and relevant resources at the centre:

We have shelves of books on Local History for visitors to read whilst they are in the centre.

Our map drawers contain a variety of Hull maps, both street and Ordnance Survey types.

Box Files
Our collection of box files contains information on the buildings and streets of Hull, as well as the people of Hull. Articles and photographs have been collected over many years, initially by Chris Ketchell and later by volunteers at the Carnegie Heritage Centre, maintaining this unique collection. We now have over 400 box files on various topics of local interest with information which may not be in books.

Street Directories
We have various street directories ranging from 1784 to 1967, including Kelly's, Whites and others.

Photographs and Postcards
Carnegie Heritage Centre has a large collection of photographs of old Hull, as well as a selection of postcards from the Local History Archives Unit Collection, for sale at 50p each.

Donations of books, memorabilia, photos or money are always welcome.
