Each term we run a Basic and an Intermediate Family History course, each session lasting two and a half hours and held over 5 weeks during school term times. Each course costs £30.00 per 5 week course to be paid before the course starts and payment can be made online through the Carnegie Heritage Centre shop or by calling into the centre on Tuesday or Friday. You will need to register with the centre if you are interested in either of these courses. The course runs on Monday mornings, 10am to 12.30pm and our next beginners starts on Monday 8th January 2024. Unfortunately, we did not have enough people to run the Intermediate course this November but will put one on next February following the January course
You can enrol on either of these courses by visiting our web site shop and buying a ticket to book a place. If you have problems please contact Liz at the centre on Tuesdays or Fridays for more information. We do like people to pay before the course starts.
EYFHS hold a help desk on a Monday afternoon for anyone needing help with their Family History.
The Carnegie volunteers are on hand every Tuesday and Friday, from 10am to 3 pm, to give you help and advice if you are stuck at any point.
EYFHS Monumental Inscription booklets are available to buy at various prices.
Just a small part of our resources
To help people with research we have a wide range of useful and relevant resources at the centre:
We have shelves of books on Local History for visitors to read whilst they are in the centre.
Our map drawers and new map cabinet contain a variety of Hull maps, both street and Ordnance Survey types.
Our collection of box files contains information on the buildings and streets of Hull, as well as the people of Hull. Articles and photographs have been collected over many years, initially by Chris Ketchell and later by volunteers, maintaining this unique collection. We now have over 400 box files on various topics of local interest.
We have various street directories ranging from 1784 to 1967, including Kelly's, Whites and others.
Carnegie Heritage Centre has a large collection of photographs of old Hull which have been digitised and put onto computers. We also have a selection of postcards from the Local History Archives Unit Collection, for sale at 50p each.
Donations of books, memorabilia, photos or money are always welcome.
