Telephone House, 35-37 Carr LaneHU1 3RE. Grid C3
To mark the jubilee of Hull’s municipal telephone system in 1954, the Hull telephone directory classified section was printed as the “Golden Pages”; this was the first time this had been done in the UK. Twelve years later, the GPO published their first Yellow Pages. Also, in 1989, Hull became the first city in the UK to have an all digital telephone system. Hull’s telephone boxes are cream, as opposed to the standard red of those across the country.
