SOMETHING FOR THE BEGINNER
LOCAL HISTORY (in conjunction with Hull History Services)
A short course of five Wednesday morning groups intended as a beginner's guide to local history in Hull. Courses begin on Wednesday 17 September 2008 and will be held from 10.00 am until 12.00 noon. Social and economic aspects of Hull's history will be discussed in an informal group manner under these general headings - World War One • 1920 to 1939, including the 'depression years' • 1939 to date, including World War Two • Religion in Hull through the ages • and the last session will include an hour long film of 'Old Hull'.

HULL IN THE 1950s (with Alan Richards)
Entertaining as well as informative, during this six week course Alan will examine various aspects of Hull during the post-war period in a fairly light-hearted manner. Aspects that will be discussed are Shopping Trends * Holidays * Disappearing Trades & Jobs * The Day Rock & Roll Was Born etc. etc.
Classes will start at 10.00 am and finish at 12.00 noon • Wednesday 29 October 2008 until Wednesday 3 December 2008

THE CARNEGIE WINTER LECTURES (something to do on the dark nights ...)
To introduce our Centre to those who may be unfamiliar with the building we are very fortunate to have six of Hull's best local historians coming to give a series of short illustrated evening talks. A diverse range of subjects will be covered from trains and trams to the Anlaby Park Estate. The talks will be held one night each month from October 2008 until March 2009. Listed below are the first three evenings topics, due to illness please accept our apologies for the change in speakers originally advertised: -
